Governance & risk
Apply governance, risk management, incident response and maturity monitoring to build an effective cybersecurity strategy.
Culture & leadership
Develop the leadership skills needed to build and sustain a strong cybersecurity culture and organisational structure.
Learning outcomes
Intended Learning Outcomes (ILOs) cover knowledge, skills and competences for cybersecurity leadership and culture.
By the end of the module
Students will be able to understand the CISO role, master leadership tasks across all governance domains, and build a working CISO organisation aligned with business objectives.
Practical leadership capabilities
The module emphasizes practical leadership outputs, from building a protection roadmap to defining the dashboards and organisation needed to run a cybersecurity function.
Protection roadmap
Build a protection roadmap covering transformation actions across the plan, build, run and monitor domains.
Security dashboards
Define security dashboards covering the seven components of maturity, for technical and managerial audiences.
CISO organisation
Design a CISO organisation and define cybersecurity roles aligned with business objectives.
12-week programme
The delivery path moves from the cybersecurity landscape and threats to governance, risk management, the protection roadmap, incident management and maturity monitoring.

Review narrated incidents and the overall potential business impacts of cybersecurity events.
Week 2: Cybersecurity Threats
Overview of the major cybersecurity threats organisations face today.
Week 3: Cybersecurity Risk Management
Apply risk management principles to cybersecurity decision-making.
Week 4: Categories of Controls
Overview of controls as structured following major categorisations.
Week 5: Frameworks & Regulations
Review major cybersecurity related frameworks and regulations.
Week 6: Governance & the Plan Domain
The governance activities and the PLAN domain of governance.
Week 7: Building a CISO Culture
Case discussion: building a CISO culture, a function, and aligning it with the organisation.
Week 8: Business & Technology Risks
The risk management process across business and technology risks.
Week 9: The Protection Roadmap
The BUILD domain of governance to implement relevant transformation actions.
Week 10: Incident Management & CERT
Incident management, CERT and the RUN domain of governance.
Week 11: Maturity & Dashboards
The MONITOR domain, including the seven components of maturity and the definition of technical and managerial security dashboards.
Week 12: CISO Roles & Organisation
Understand the various cybersecurity roles and the development of a CISO organisation.
Cybersecurity Culture, Strategy & Leadership
The module gives 5 ECTS and concludes with a certificate distributed at the end of the training.
